SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s Power Rankings – June 5, 2023

St. Louis was the site of last week’s NASCAR race at World Wide Technology Raceway. Here’s a look at the “Power Rankings” following Sunday’s Enjoy Illinois 300:

1. Kyle Busch

The dominant car of the weekend belonged to Busch as he won the pole and led 121 laps on his way to win number three of the season and his first campaign with Richard Childress Racing. After winning twice and plateauing out for a few weeks, St. Louis could be the catapult to more trips to Victory Lane for Busch.

Last Week: 3rd

2.  William Byron

A tad off from the strength Byron has shown of late however the Hendrick Motorsports driver did pace the field for 30 laps on Sunday. An eighth-place finish was by no means a terrible outing for Byron.

3. Martin Truex Jr.

A blue collar day for Truex Jr. and company who grinded out a top-five finish in St. Louis. Truex Jr. finished where he started in fifth and continues to be a consistent performer in the early summer portion of the schedule.

Point Standings: 4th
Last Week: 2nd

4. Ryan Blaney

He followed up his Coca-Cola 600 victory on Monday with a very solid outing in St. Louis. Blaney won the second stage and his sixth place finish put him firmly on top of the Cup Series point standings.

5. Denny Hamlin

Although he didn’t lead a lap, Hamlin was a presence at the front of the field for a good part of Sunday’s race. After finishing third in both of teh opening two stages, Hamlin ended up with a runner-up St. Louis performance.

Point Standings: 8th
Last Week: 6th

6. Kyle Larson

He was completely frustrated with his car after practice and qualifying on Saturday. But Larson and crew chief Cliff Daniels stayed with it and fourth place finish after starting 22nd turned out to be a really good day after all for the No. 5 team.

Point Standings: 9th
Last Week: 8th

7. Kevin Harvick

Nothing spectacular for Harvick who didn’t have the best car by any means but did what he could with the Stewart-Haas Racing No. 4 Ford. After starting fourth, a tenth place finish was the reward for Harvick’s efforts.

Point Standings: 3rd
Last Week: 9th

8. Ross Chastain

Things have not gone Chastain’s way in recent weeks and he was involved in an early race incident making contact with Michael McDowell. He seemed off pace the bulk of the day and he crossed the finish line with a 22nd place effort.

Point Standings: 5th
Last Week: 4th

9. Christopher Bell

Another race that didn’t quite go Bell’s way. He fought hard to stay near the top-10 and ended up taking the checkered flag with an 11th place performance in St. Louis.

Point Standings: 6th
Last Week: 10th

10. Joey Logano

The defending winner of the race had a decent day fighting through an issue with the calling inside the race car. But Logano persevered and brought the Team Penske No. 22 Ford home to a third place finish.
