Texas Rangers ALDS Preview:

The Rangers’ journey to the ALDS has been marked by stellar performances from their dynamic duo of starters, Jordan Montgomery and Nathan Eovaldi. Together, they locked down the Tampa Bay Rays, surrendering only one run over an impressive 13.2 innings. However, beyond these two aces, the waters get murkier, especially when it comes to a bullpen that struggled mightily this season, boasting a dismal 47.6 percent success rate in save opportunities.

What sets the Rangers apart is their powerhouse offense, a force to be reckoned with in the American League. They led the league in various offensive categories, including runs (881), batting average (.263), on-base percentage (.337), slugging percentage (.452), and tied for first in homers (233). Corey Seager, with a .327 batting average, 33 homers, and 96 RBI in just 119 games, alongside Marcus Semien, hitting .276 with 29 homers and 100 RBI, lead the charge for a lineup featuring seven players who each belted 17 or more home runs. The Rangers’ fortunes seem to rise when both Corey and Josh Jung are in the lineup, as they posted a 52-31 record when both stars were healthy.

However, the Rangers face adversity in their pitching rotation. The absence of Jacob deGrom for the season and Max Scherzer and Jon Gray being unavailable for the ALDS puts added pressure on their remaining arms.

Baltimore Orioles ALDS Preview:

The Orioles may have a slight concern in the ninth inning after closer Félix Bautista underwent Tommy John surgery. Nonetheless, they’ve managed to navigate the save opportunities with a matchup-reliant platoon, and since Bautista’s injury in August, the team’s bullpen has posted a respectable 3.54 ERA. The emergence of electric righty Yennier Cano has been a game-changer for the bullpen, providing much-needed stability.

When it comes to the Orioles, they hold a significant advantage with home-field advantage and a robust pitching staff. They concluded the regular season ranking fifth in the American League in ERA (3.89) and WHIP (1.24). What’s more, they appear to have no glaring weaknesses, excelling in all facets of the game. Their defense is top-notch, they run the bases with precision, and they possess the power to change the course of a game with their bats. To top it off, the Orioles boast a solid rotation and bullpen that can shut down opposing lineups.
