For Allen Robinson, there never was much of a question about which teams showing interest in him as a free agent would provide the best landing spot. It was always the Chicago Bears.

For Allen Robinson, there never was much of a question about which teams showing interest in him as a free agent would provide the best landing spot.

It was always the Chicago Bears.

‘I knew where I wanted to play and that was in Chicago’

“Just from what I saw, as far as the field of teams, I knew where I wanted to play and that was in Chicago,” Robinson told Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on Movin’ The Chains. “It just was about if that was going to pan out or not.”

It panned out, alright, to the tune of a three-year, $42-million contract he signed Wednesday. Robinson, who spent four seasons with the Chicago Bears, is recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in last season’s opening game against Houston and caused him to miss the rest of the year.

‘They just want to make sure I’m ready for camp’

The Bears had no problem with trusting that Robinson will make a full recovery.

“For me just talking with the trainers and things like that, they just want to make sure I’m ready for camp,” he said. “I mean, for me, I know that’s the nitty-gritty part of the season, so they want to make sure I’m ready for that. This is a conversation that my agent has had with the organization as far as everybody understanding the circumstances. And Chicago is also a team, they understood the circumstances. We saw everything through the same set of eyes as far as the direction that Chicago wants to take this thing. My injury, everything, we saw through the same set of eyes, so that was a perfect match.”

‘I felt the energy from the fan base, and it’s a very exciting feeling’

Robinson can’t wait for the opportunity to play for one of the NFL’s original franchises with as rabid a following as any in sports.

“I felt the energy from the time that it crossed the ticker that I was going to sign with the Bears,” he said. “I felt the energy from the fan base, and it’s a very exciting feeling. Now it’s also a very unique feeling. I miss one of those big cities who loves and breathes football, so I’m really excited to be here.”
