Purdue, Rutgers Net Men’s Basketball Weekly Accolades

Boilermakers’ Kaufman-Renn and Scarlet Knights’ Bailey earn Big Ten weekly honors

Freshman of the Week

Ace Bailey, Rutgers
G – 6-10 – Chattanooga, Tenn. – McEachern

  • Averaged 22 points, 10.5 rebounds. 3.0 assists, and 3.0 blocked shots, as Rutgers scored a pair of wins
  • Posted 24 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and a game-sealing steal in the final minute of an 85-82 win at Nebraska
  • Led the Scarlet Knights with 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 75-68 win over UCLA
  • Earns his second Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Rutgers Player of the Week: Ace Bailey (January 6, 2025)

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Shyanne Sellers, Maryland
Senior – Guard – Aurora, Ohio – Aurora
• Powered Maryland to a 99-92 victory over No. 24 Minnesota with a season-high 27 points
• Added nine rebounds and seven assists to the stats sheet
• Shot 81.8 percent (9-11) from the field while going 6-for-6 at the free throw line and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc
• Earns the second Big Ten Player of the Week award of her career
• Last Maryland Player of the Week: Kaylene Smikle (Jan. 6, 2025)

Big Ten Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll
Lauren Betts, UCLA: Recorded her 10th double-double (22 points, 12 rebounds) of the season in the Bruins’ win over Penn State
JuJu Watkins, USC: Paced the Trojans with a game-high 22 points in a comeback win at Indiana
Sayvia Sellers, WASH: Averaged 27.0 points and went 8-for-8 at the charity stripe during the Huskies’ split week

Guard – Nashville, Tenn. – Montverde Academy
• Led the Buckeyes to a 69-60 road win at Wisconsin with a game-best 27 points
• Notched a career-high eight rebounds along with four assists and a steal
• Collects her second Big Ten Freshman of the Week laurel
• Last Ohio State Freshman of the Week: Jaloni Cambridge (Jan. 13, 2025)

Co-Freshman of the Week
Britt Prince, Nebraska
Guard – Omaha, Neb. – Elkhorn North
• Scored 22 points to propel Nebraska to an 87-84 overtime win against Iowa, the first victory in Iowa City since 2018
• Registered career marks in three-pointers (5) and steals (6) while chipping in seven rebounds and five assists
• Sank a pair of free throws with 2.8 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime
• Secures her first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor

First Star
Jimmy Snuggerud, Minnesota
Jr. – F – Chaska, Minn. — U.S. National Team Development Program

  • Scored in back-to-back games, recording three goals and 10 shots on goal as No. 3/3 Minnesota took four of six points from Notre Dame in Minneapolis, Minn.
  • Netted two goals during the first period of Minnesota’s 5-2 win over Notre Dame on Friday
  • Followed with a first-period goal on Saturday, finishing his season series against the Irish with eight points (five goals, three assists) in four games
  • The St. Louis Blue first round draft pick collects his sixth career Big Ten weekly award (5-Firsts, 1-Second) and his second of the season

Charlie Stramel, Michigan State

  • Compiled two goals and an assist for No. 1/1 Michigan State in a 4-1 win over No. 10/10 Michigan Saturday at Munn Ice Arena.
  • Assisted on the game’s opening goal before notching a goal later in the first period that became the game-winner; added a short-handed marker in the second period
  • Has compiled 21 points for the top-ranked Spartans, accumulating more points than his two previous seasons combined
  • The Minnesota Wild first round draft pick earns his first weekly award of the season and the second of his career
  • Last Michigan State Star recipient: Isaac Howard (First Star) on Jan. 14, 2022

Third Star
Ryland Mosley, Wisconsin
Gr. – F – Arnprior, Ontario — Michigan Tech (NCAA)

  • Factored in five of eight goals to help Wisconsin to a win and overtime tie against Long Island in nonconference action
  • Started the weekend with a four-assist game Friday in Wisconsin’s 6-3 win at the Kohl Center
  • Added another assist on Saturday to remain tied for second in team scoring with 27 points
  • The Michigan Tech transfer earns his second Star honor of the season after being named Second Star on Dec. 3, 2024
