What will we call Bill Clinton if Hillary Clinton wins the presidency? First man? First dude? First cat? The latter is precisely what Nashville Mayor Megan Barry‘s husband decided to call himself after his wife took office.
“[Bill Clinton] will have to do the same thing my husband did, and decide what he wants to be called,” Barry told Mayor Philip Levine. “I think Bruce decided he wanted to be the first cat of Nashville.”
The 2016 race was front and center during this year’s annual U.S. Mayors Conference in Indianapolis, with Hillary Clinton attending the event as an invited speaker. Called a “friend to mayors and cities across the country” by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Clinton took to the stage Sunday touting her plans to work with the leaders of each city if she were to be elected president this fall.
“A lot of the mayors here have been laboring in the vineyards of your cities and your states and working to provide better lives for the people you represent,” Clinton said to the crowd. “We are more effective when federal and local governments see each other as allies, not adversaries. That’s why I’m not just asking to be your president. I’m asking to be your partner.”
SiriusXM’s own resident Mayor Levine was in attendance at the event, speaking with his colleagues about challenges and accomplishments in their respective cities, the importance of the 2016 election and even upcoming dinner parties.
