Josh Allen has experienced the ups and downs typical of an NFL rookie quarterback.

He also feels fortunate to be receiving the guidance he has gotten from Buffalo Bills first-year offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

‘Now I feel comfortable with the playbook, I feel comfortable with all the plays’

“I think Coach Daboll’s been great for me,” Allen told Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on Movin’ The Chains. “I owe a lot of success to him, things that he’s done for me, the knowledge that he’s put on my shoulders. But now I feel comfortable with the playbook, I feel comfortable with all the plays, protections, you name it.

“And when we go out there, I feel like I get a sense of knowing what everybody’s doing out there, everybody should be doing, and I can give a sense and direction of that as well to anybody that has any questions. Whether it be on the line or one of the receivers, I definitely feel like that’s where most of my development has been.”

‘I can kind of judge and kind of guess what I think Dabes wants to call’

In 10 games, including nine starts, Allen has completed 52.2 percent of his passes for 1,633 yards and six touchdowns, with nine interceptions. He has been the starter in four of the Bills’ five victories and five of their nine losses. The action has done wonders for Allen’s quarterbacking education.

“The more time you spend with somebody, especially when he’s calling plays in your ear, the better that’s going to be.”

“As our relationship grows as quarterback and offensive coordinator, the more opportunities I get to be in games, I can kind of judge and kind of guess what I think Dabes wants to call and what he’s thinking when he calls a certain play,” Allen said. “And that’s only going to continue to get better. The more time you spend with somebody, especially when he’s calling plays in your ear throughout the whole game, the better that’s going to be.

‘Just trust in what he’s calling and try to go out there and execute’

“So whenever he calls a play, I can be like, ‘OK, he wants me to get into field goal range if its third-and-long. We’re trying to get to the 35-yard line.’ Just trust in what he’s calling and try to go out there and execute how he wants it to be executed.”
