Anthony Mackie, Julius Onah, Danny Ramirez, and Shira Haas — stars of the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World” movie — sat down with SiriusXM Urban View host Mike Muse for an exclusive Town Hall interview.
“The idea for the character, for me, what I wanted to show and express was that Sam Wilson is every man, woman, and child’s Captain America, and he’s the best part of all of us,” Anthony said, “because when I was a kid, I loved Superman, right? I had no idea Christopher Reeves was white. I didn’t think about Superman being white.”
He continued, “But his character, his humanity, that was something I could emulate. That was something I could aspire to. So I ripped up a sheet and tied it around my neck and ran around the house like I was Superman. It’s not the idea of him having to look like me or him being me for me to want to express and appreciate the humanity of this character. It was just that he was a beautiful human being. He’s the best part of what I want to grow up to be, so I can look at that person and see myself.”
