The Houston Texans aren’t likely to take their time when it comes to trying to get the most out of wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who they acquired from the Denver Broncos hours before the NFL’s trading deadline Tuesday.

Former NFL quarterback Brady Quinn said he expects Texans coach Bill O’Brien to find simple, but effective ways, to allow Thomas to make an impact when he goes against his former team Sunday at Denver.

‘(Watson’s) literally just telling him what he’s  going to run’

While co-hosting with Bruce Murray on the SiriusXM Blitz, Quinn pointed out that, with limited preparation time, the Texans will likely put together a package of plays that will take advantage of what Thomas does best.

“Situational plays as in regards to running some deep routes, easy things for him,” Quinn said. “Go route, post route, slant, those sorts of things that he’s run before. And it may be a scenario where Deshaun Watson’s just saying to Demaryius … he’s calling the play in the huddle for everyone else or maybe signaling, but to Demaryius, he might just be giving him a ‘one’ for a hitch, a ‘two’ for a slant, or whatever the signal may be for that individual route. And he’s literally just telling him what he’s going to run. So that may be part of it.

‘He’s the type of guy you’d like to get the ball in his hands early because  of his speed, but also his power’

“You can probably dial up a wide-receiver screen for him as well. He’s the type of guy you’d like to get the ball in his hands early because  of his speed, but also his power and his physicality when he does get the football in his hands. You saw that a bunch back when Peyton Manning was their quarterback and he was throwing to Demaryius Thomas, and I’m sure that’s something that Bill O’Brien would like to incorporate more in his offense as well.”
