Vic Fangio forced to be mum on Broncos’ acquisition of Joe Flacco

INDIANAPOLIS — The Denver Broncos’ trade to acquire quarterback Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens doesn’t become official until March 13, the beginning of the NFL calendar. INDIANAPOLIS — The Denver Broncos’ trade to acquire quarterback Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens doesn’t become official until March 13, the beginning of the NFL calendar.

That puts the Broncos’ new coach, Vic Fangio, in the awkward position of knowing Flacco will be joining his team but not being able to discuss it publicly.

‘It’s hard to answer that question without violating some league rules’

Alex Marvez and Charles Davis tried getting Fangio to address the Flacco acquisition at the NFL Scouting Combine.

“It’s hard to answer that question without violating some league rules,” Fangio said.

‘Cautious optimism’

Cautious optimism?

“Cautious optimism.”

‘Just how defensive players and coaches view things, I think, can be helpful’

Fangio’s background as an outstanding defensive coordinator, a role he most recently filled with the Chicago Bears, gives him a perspective that he expects to help the big-picture responsibility he now has of working closely with the Broncos’ offensive coaches.

“That does give them a different perspective that they’re not used to having in that room,” Fangio said. “So that definitely is part of it, but just also how defensive players and coaches view things, that whole part of the equation, I think, can be helpful.”
