Going in Style: Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin + Ann Margaret bring star power to SiriusXM
Michael Caine shared his story of being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II with Entertainment Weekly Radio.
Going in Style, a re-imagining of the the 1979 heist flick, tells the story of unlikely bank robbers: three elderly men bonded by desperation after losing their pensions.
And when stars Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin and Ann Margaret stopped by SiriusXM for a Town Hall hosted by Entertainment Weekly Radio’s Jessica Shaw, their undeniable chemistry carried the interview, quipping about one another’s quirks and reminiscing about their storied careers like old friends.
“When you reach a certain age, you are not dead,” Ann-Margaret said of the message to the rollicking flick.
“What age is that?” Arkin teased.
The film marks yet another collaboration between Freeman and Caine, who also appeared together in The Dark Knight and Now You See Me.
Though the Hollywood icons have known one another for years, they told tales that our audience of SiriusXM subscribers and themselves had never heard before.
When Michael Caine — sorry, Sir Michael Caine — was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, he “nearly got into trouble.”
“She said to me, ‘I have a feeling you’ve been doing what you do for a long time,'” he told the crowd. “And I almost said, ‘So have you.'”
Watch the video below to hear the joke he did tell the monarch at a dinner party.
Freeman reflected on his stage stint in Othello: His costume had theater-goers thinking he looked more like Jimi Hendrix than a Shakespearean character.
“Somebody way in the back said, ‘Sing Purple Haze!'” he said as the crowd laughed.
“That’s not a good start to Othello, is it?” Caine cracked.
