Watch a Half-Squid Harry Styles Sing for His Supper in New Video
The idea behind “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” came to Harry while dining at (no surprise here) a sushi restaurant.

You might already recognize the catchy horns in Harry Styles’ “Music For a Sushi Restaurant” from when the song was featured in TV commercial earlier this year. But the unusually named earworm is back with an equally as unusual music video.
Directed by Aube Perrie, the “Music For a Sushi Restaurant” music video takes place at the fictional seafood restaurant Gill’s Lounge. The brilliant marketing team behind Styles seeded a website and social presence for Gill’s Lounge long ago, teasing keen-eyed fans in the same vein as “Visit Eroda” and “You Are Home.”
In the music video, Styles — with a full beard and a squid/merman lower half — is captured by the owner of Gill’s Lounge. Just before he’s about to be cooked into an entrée, squid-Harry proves that he can sing and provide entertainment for the restaurant’s diners.

Now that he’s shown his true worth, he becomes the restaurant’s main attraction, forcing the employees to bathe and pamper him as his star power grows.
In an interview, Styles explained that the idea behind “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” came to him while at (no surprise here) a sushi restaurant: “I kind of said, like, ‘This is really strange music for a sushi restaurant,’ and then I was like, ‘Oh, that would be a really fun album title.’ And then as this song started being made, I kind of just said, ‘Music at a sushi restaurant.’”
As the music video continues, singing-squid-Harry begins to lose his voice and ends up back on the menu. Is it a metaphor for the entertainment industry as a whole? See the video below for yourself.
