As a reality star, Lauren Conrad’s teenage years and early 20s played out on national TV. But now, the author, fashion designer and lifestyle guru admits she prefers to keep her “personal life personal.”
That’s why her husband William Tell’s at-home proposal was so perfect, she told Taylor Strecker during a SiriusXM Leading Ladies special that premiered Wednesday morning.
An accomplished party-planner — her new book Celebrate is on shelves now — Conrad, 30, said she was swept away by Tell’s simple but romantic surprise.
“I was getting ready upstairs, I thought we were going to a dinner, and he set up this whole thing really quickly. He had done several practice runs the week before,” she said. “He did little sparkly lights and candles and had music playing, and he had set up this little table, he had borrowed his mother’s china and candlesticks, champagne. I mean, it was a whole thing. It was really sweet.”

The couple got married in September 2014 in California. But before popping the question, Tell impressed his etiquette expert bride-to-be by speaking with her parents.
“It’s really funny, the way he tells it, they’re obviously really nice and are like, ‘Of course, of course.’ And then they sort of warned him, they were like, ‘You know, she can be a handful. Are you sure?’ ” she said, laughing. “I was like, ‘Thanks guys!’ ”
