Larry the Cable Guy says Hillary Clinton won’t really be ‘end of country’ on Raw Dog Comedy

“Do I like Hillary Clinton? No. Am I gonna vote for Hillary Clinton? No. Do I honestly think she’s gonna destroy our country? We’ll still be a country, we’ll still be America, but I think she’s gonna hurt it a little bit,” he said.

Larry the Cable Guy made headlines (and trended on Twitter) Tuesday morning when he said Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton “will be the end of the country.”

The thing is, Larry’s an over-the-top redneck created by comic Daniel Lawrence Whitney. And in a Raw Report interview airing in full Thursday, he broke character to clarify his remark.

“I’m a comedian. So I said that. Do I like Hillary Clinton? No. Am I gonna vote for Hillary Clinton? No. Do I honestly think she’s gonna destroy our country? We’ll still be a country, we’ll still be America, but I think she’s gonna hurt it a little bit,” he said. “But we’ll still be around.”

He also said people confuse the line between his shtick and his real opinions.

“Stephen Colbert … he’s a left-winger playing a right-wing character, and they love that. I’m a conservative country kid,” he said. “I grew up in the country, I’m a conservative guy playing a far-right conservative guy.”

“That’s the guy that I portray,” he added. “His heart is in the right place, but he has no clue what he’s saying, and sometimes he just says nutty stuff, kind of like Trump. You can tell Trump really has his heart in the right place. … He kind of comes across to me like he really wants to do a good job, but he says things the wrong way.”

Speaking of Trump, it wasn’t a Washington speech writer who came up with the buzziest line from Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s endorsement of the Republican nominee.

“There is someone that can get the job done. Or as Larry the Cable Guy would say, ‘Let’s git ‘r done,'” she said as the convention crowd cheered.

Larry addressed Blackburn using his catchphrase Tuesday on The Jenny McCarthy Show.

“Oh my gosh, I’ll tell you, I think that stuff is pretty cool,” he said. “I’m glad that she’s a fan.”

Larry’s been a hit among conservative politicians for years, telling McCarthy about a 2008 appearance on The Tonight Show when Jay Leno showed him a clip of Mike Huckabee quoting him on the campaign trail.

“I go, ‘Well that’s really nice of Mike Huckabee. Let me just say this. One, I wish Mike Huckabee the best of luck in his campaign. I hope he wins. And number two, Mr. Huckabee, you owe me $55,000,'” he joked.
