After suffering a miscarriage, comedian Margaret Cho is remaining hopeful about becoming a mom.

“Earlier this year, unfortunately the baby died, and it was very difficult because I thought I couldn’t ever again,” Cho said Tuesday on Conversations with Maria Menounos.

But her doctors now say it’s still possible for the 47-year-old to conceive a child naturally before turning to in vitro fertilization as the next step.

“It was hard, but then it was encouraging to talk to other women that have been through it,” she told Menounos of the miscarriage. “My partner has children and grandchildren. He has daughters in their 30s and then grandchildren who are 4, 5 and 6, so it’s a little bit like I already have a family, too. I have these grown daughters and I have these grandchildren in addition to this family we may start as well. So it’s all encouraging. There’s plenty of kids.”

Menounos, 37, has also been trying for a baby with fiance Keven Undergaro for a while and is in her last round of IVF.

“They put so much fear into you, and so it makes me feel good that you aren’t really kind of living in that fear and that you’re just trying,” she said. “The fact that that happened naturally is a beautiful thing, and it’s possible, that’s great.”

Wherever the journey takes her, Cho said she’s learned to stay positive after the miscarriage, which happened when she was two months along.

“It feels like you’ve let down this kid. I felt like, ‘Oh, I’m a failure at this,’ but then you’re not. It’s just the body’s way of just dealing with what is a viable pregnancy, and it’s fine. It’s just a stage,” she said. “We can’t predict what’s going to happen, so just enjoy the process. And then tell your kid, ‘This is how you got here.’ ”

Conversations with Maria Menounos airs weekdays at 1 pm ET on SiriusXM Stars (Ch. 109).
