As the NFL’s Week 16 Christmas matchup for Monday Night Football draws near, football fans are gearing up as the Baltimore Ravens take on the San Francisco 49ers. Here’s what you need to know about the key players and storylines.

Home: San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have secured the NFC West title for the second consecutive year, marking their first back-to-back division titles since 2011-12.

Quarterback Brock Purdy stands out, leading the NFL in touchdown passes (29) and boasting a remarkable rating of 119. Additionally, he ranks second in passing yards with 3,795 in the 2023 season. Running back Christian McCaffrey delivered a stellar performance in Week 15, amassing 187 scrimmage yards (115 rushing, 72 receiving) and three touchdowns (two receiving, one rushing). McCaffrey leads the NFL in both scrimmage yards (1,801) and rush yards (1,292), tying for first in scrimmage touchdowns (20) in the 2023 season.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is on a hot streak with two receiving touchdowns in Week 15, aiming for his fifth consecutive game with a touchdown. Samuel and McCaffrey are the only two players this season with five or more rushing touchdowns and five or more receiving touchdowns. Tight end George Kittle ranks third among tight ends with 865 receiving yards in the 2023 season, targeting his third consecutive home game with a touchdown catch.

Defensively, Nick Bosa has been a force with a sack and his 10th career forced fumble in Week 15. Linebacker Fred Warner stands out with 100+ tackles in each of the past six seasons and leads linebackers with nine pass defenses in 2023.

Away: Baltimore Ravens

On the Baltimore Ravens’ side, they secured a playoff berth for the second consecutive season and the fifth time in the past six seasons. Quarterback Lamar Jackson showcased his dual-threat abilities, totaling 268 yards (171 passing, 97 rushing) with a touchdown pass in the previous week.

Running back Gus Edwards has been a red-zone threat with 11 touchdowns this season, the fourth-most rush touchdowns in a season in franchise history. Rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers has made an impact with a receiving touchdown in two of the past three games, securing 65 catches, the most ever by a rookie in franchise history. Tight end Isaiah Likely aims for his third consecutive game with 5+ catches, 70+ receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown.

On the defensive front, Justin Madubuike has been a consistent force with a sack and a forced fumble last week, becoming the sixth player since 1982 with 0.5+ sacks in 11 straight games. Linebacker Roquan Smith ranks fourth in the NFL with 142 tackles in the 2023 season and has contributed 0.5+ sacks in two of three career games against the 49ers. Safety Kyle Hamilton is the only player in the NFL with 10+ tackles for loss and 10+ pass defenses this season.
