Mariah Carey was born on March 27, 1970, an occasion she prefers to call her “327 Anniversary” instead of her birthday.
Last year, the five-time Grammy winner — with a stunning, five-octave range, 18 number one hits, and more than 200 million in record sales — spent the days surrounding her 327 Anniversary jetsetting with director Brett Ratner, whom tabloids proclaimed she was dating at the time. But buried in one such report on Radar Online was a mention that she and Ratner flew to the Caribbean via the private plane of James Packer, the Australian billionaire to whom Carey became engaged in January. (Her wedding is pending her divorce from star Nick Cannon, with whom he has two children.)
Despite selling more than 64 million albums in the U.S. alone, landing her at number 17 on the RIAA’s list of best-selling music artists in the country, and holding the longest-running Billboard chart-topper in history (One Sweet Day, her duet with Boyz II Men), she often has obligations to travel and perform on her special day. However, in 2012 some of her friends managed to surprise her with a Mean Girls-themed bash, complete with pink lingerie and a “So Fetch” cake.
Where will the 327 Anniversary party be this year? She is scheduled to perform a concert on March 27 near Brussels, but in the wake of recent terrorist bombings has been advised to cancel those dates. So we shall see what the day brings for one of our favorite divas.
No matter where you are, we hope you have a great 327 Anniversary, Mariah!
