Nick Cannon on being happy for ex Mariah Carey and why he won’t vote this election
“There is no such thing as the Illuminati, but I do believe there are some very high-powered people that make decisions for this world,” Cannon said.
Election season is in full swing with back-to-back conventions — but come November, Nick Cannon won’t cast a ballot.
“My conspiracy theory is I don’t think the presidential campaign — I think it’s all for pageantry,” Cannon said Monday on The Howard Stern Show, clarifying that he always votes in local elections. “I don’t care if it’s Hillary or Trump, ain’t sh*t gonna change.”
Regardless of the candidates, the rapper turned entrepreneur said he believes the race is predetermined.
“There is no such thing as the Illuminati, but I do believe there are some very high-powered people that make decisions for this world,” he said. “They’re probably rich people, that’s what they are. Very, very rich people.”
Cannon, 35, even suggested Donald Trump “is in on” the scam.
“I think Trump is causing all of this confusion, it’s making him very popular, it’s making him some more money because he knows that everybody’s gonna go and vote for Hillary,” he said. “It’s a Jedi mind trick.”
Though Cannon said he thinks Hillary Clinton would make the better “figurehead” for America, “they’re both bulls***, and I’m coughing it up,” he insisted, laughing.
Stern was surprised by Cannon’s stance considering he voted and campaigned for Barack Obama back in 2008.
“I had to be a part of that,” Cannon explained. “I wanted the first black president.”
The America’s Got Talent host also discussed his cordial relationship with estranged wife Mariah Carey.
The couple legally separated in August 2014 but technically remain married, even as Carey is engaged to billionaire James Packer.
Why the prolonged divorce proceedings? Despite tabloid reports, Cannon said he and the pop diva signed a prenup before tying the knot in 2008 and aren’t arguing over money.
“Honestly, and again, throwing more people under the bus, I think it’s the lawyers trying to get more money, if you ask me,” he said. “Mariah and I are super cool, talk every day.”
Cannon said he’s thrilled that his ex found love again (“To see her happy is outstanding”) and savors the time he gets with their two children, 5-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.
“Everything shuts down when I’m with my kids. I don’t care, it’s their time. My house is like a big fun house. I have a candy store and slides,” he said. “So we’re just playing the whole time and enjoying each other.”
That doesn’t mean he can’t lay down the law.
“I’m the disciplinarian 100 percent. Bedtime, all of that,” he said. “They know Dad don’t play.”
