Nikki Sixx pumps the brakes on a Motley Crue reunion: ‘Motley Crue was never really meant to stay together’

Mötley Crüe officially disbanded in 2015, but that hasn’t stopped fans and other musicians from speculating about the possibility of a reunion. During his appearance on Wednesday’s episode of Debatable with Alan Light and Mark Goodman, Sixx:A.M. bassist (and former Mötley Crüe member) Nikki Sixx made it sound like the band members are content with how things currently stand.

“Motley Crue was never really meant to stay together, I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did, it was wired like a bunch of rottweilers or like a gang,” Sixx explained. “There were all these type-A personalities and different issues within the band that made it really magical, but maturity and that doesn’t necessarily work together. I think that it was kind of cool that we sat down together and said ‘Hey man, let’s just let this thing go.'”

Sixx said that prior to Mötley Crüe’s final tour, the band members signed a legally-binding contract that stopped them from touring as any version of the band again.

“We wanted to do that for a few reasons. One is we never wanted to see two versions or three versions of the band out there or one or two band members out there,” he said. “We felt like we came here for a purpose and we wanted to exit on our own terms as the original band, so we felt really good about that.”

Sixx’s sole focus now is on Sixx:A.M., the band he formed in 2007 as a side project.

On Wednesday’s episode of Trunk Nation, Eddie Trunk and Sixx:A.M. members James Michael and DJ Ashba floated the idea of the Mötley Crüe getting back together.

“Here’s the thing: I believe that they are extremely sincere about the decision that they made and I do believe that they made that decision out of respect for the fans, so I applaud that,” Michael said. “But, none of us could’ve anticipated the void that was left so I would not be disappointed if at some point they did decide to do something because there was a huge void left and people still talk about it every single day.”

Sixx:A.M. dropped two albums this year and is still on the road for its extensive touring schedule. The band members are looking forward to enjoying a little time off before getting back into the studio.

“Recording and writing with other bands and enjoying a little bit of time off because, man, we’ve been going at it hard,” Michael said. “We released two albums this year, wrote and recorded two albums, released them this year, we’ve been on the road for more than half the year. So I think all of us are looking forward to getting back home, getting a little bit recharged but then picking up with this momentum that we’ve created and really hit the ground running in 2017.”
