It’s no secret pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo is a Billy Joel superfan, as evidenced by her mention of the legendary singer-songwriter in her 2021 smash hit “deja vu.” And, now, demonstrated by her surprise performance with Billy during his concert last night (August 24) at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City.

During the Wednesday show, Billy invited Olivia on stage to sing “deja vu,” with the legendary “Piano Man” and his band backing her up. The chart-topping hit was a no-brainer choice as it name-checks Billy and references his 1983 classic “Uptown Girl” — which, fittingly, Olivia and Billy performed a duet of afterwards.

“I’m such a huge fan and I couldn’t have written this next one without you,” she told Billy before launching into “deja vu.”
