Pat Kirwan says Sheldon Richardson ‘will be ridiculously good’ for Seahawks
It isn’t hard to figure out who got the better end of Friday’s trade that saw the New York Jets ship disgruntled defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for wide receiver Jermaine Kearse and a 2018 second-round draft pick.

It isn’t hard to figure out who got the better end of Friday’s trade that saw the New York Jets ship disgruntled defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for wide receiver Jermaine Kearse and a 2018 second-round draft pick.
With Richardson added to an already strong defensive front that includes Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril, Pat Kirwan envisions the Seahawks’ D becoming even stronger while the Jets, well, continue to dismantle.
‘They’ve set themselves up nicely’
“If you don’t think Sheldon Richardson is going to make their defensive front ridiculous to block, forget it,” Kirwan said with co-host Jim Miller on Movin’ The Chains. “They’ve set themselves up nicely. They’ve been working on this for weeks and it went back and forth, and, obviously, the Jets could use Kearse. They could use draft compensation, we all know where they’re headed.”
After a Defensive Rookie of the Year season in 2013 and a Pro Bowl season in 2014, Richardson has struggled the past two years. He has $8 in guaranteed money coming his way, he wasn’t happy with being part of the Jets, and the team was seeking to move him.
‘You could always tag him if he’s awesome’
Kirwan is convinced the Seahawks are begging a tremendous bargain.
“Sheldon will be ridiculously good,” Kirwan said. “They got him for a year. I was with Bill Cowher all day (Thursday), and Bill said, ‘I would do that in a minute.’ And (Richardson) may like it in Seattle and you may have the ability to get him signed to a long-term deal. You could always tag him if he’s awesome. And Bill thought the compensation should be higher than it was.”
