Phil Mogg Explains Why UFO Ended, Remembers Pete Way
Phil also shared whether UFO’s last live show will happen in an interview on SiriusXM’s ‘Trunk Nation.’
During a new episode of “Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk” on SiriusXM’s Faction Talk (Ch. 103), Phil Mogg explained UFO ended because Pete Way’s passing in 2020 “took the original flavor out of the band.” Listen to Phil’s full interview exclusively on the SiriusXM app.
Phil Mogg Reveals Why UFO Ended
“I think when Pete went it kind of took the original flavor out of the band,” Phil said. “He was kind of irreplaceable in that sense. Obviously, we can get another bass player in, but it’s not the same. It was like taking a big lump out of the band.”
“And as bad as it was at certain times,” Phil added, “it was kind of the character of the band, and I know for some time after Pete when I felt a little bit, it meant I’d have to do double the amount of jokes. It meant I’d have to do double the amount of drinking because he was gone.”
“I didn’t have anyone to hide behind because Pete would do the interviews too,” he continued. “He would come out with such ridiculous things… So I think after that I think the steam went out a bit – and I didn’t particularly want to see UFO go in and sort of ever-decreasing circles.”
Phil Mogg Doubts Last UFO Live Show Will Happen
During the interview, Phil also told Eddie Trunk that he doubts UFO’s last live show will take place as he “can’t see it happening in such a way that it would be worthy of doing it.”
“It would have to be pretty damn good,” he said. “And if you stick something out there and it falls below par, then the audience people who come along will be disappointed. I’d be disappointed if it was below something else. And I think that’s the chance that I really wouldn’t want to take unless it was like, ‘Yeah, this is happening.’”
