The game will go on.

“I think that’s the right decision,” Rep. Dan Kildee told Tim Farley Wednesday. “This is an effort of bipartisanship and in this case, I think it even goes beyond that now. This is a real show of unity.”

Kildee’s commentary reflects that of Speaker Paul Ryan’s remarks from the House floor saying, “We are united… An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.”

The decision to continue with the annual congressional baseball game comes after Wednesday’s shooting at the Republican team’s practice, which injured House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and four others. The shooter was killed.

The Democratic team, including Kildee, were practicing at a different location at the time of the shooting.

Kildee maintained that by playing “it’s an expression that we can kind of get together and do this sort of thing.”

He added, “I think it comes now at a particularly important time that we demonstrate to the country that these divisions can be breached and our game will be one way to show that.”
