Pete Carroll couldn’t be happier.

Not only are his Seattle Seahawks headed to the playoffs for the the seventh time in nine seasons, but he also received a contract extension Monday that will keep them as their coach through the 2021 season.

‘We have a team that we really like’

“It’s great to be here,” Carroll told Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on Movin’ The Saints. “This has been such a fun organization to represent and this is such a good place to play the game. The 12s are amazing and all of that, but we also have a team that we really like.

“It’s really a very young team. (General Manager) John (Schneider’s) put together a great group and it gives us a chance to look to the future with really high hopes, so all of that connected together makes it for a very good situation.”

‘(Russell Wilson) is a great deep-ball thrower’

One of the primary seasons the Seahawks can feel good about the immediate future, and beyond, is the play of quarterback Russell Wilson. A key part of his game that he showed in the Seahawks’ 38-31 postseason-berth-clinching win against the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday night was Wilson’s ability to launch long throws that resemble punts but have a way of finding their target.

“In the old-school days, you used to watch the Sammy Baughs, the old guys, they’d throw the ball and it would go off the TV screen.”

“He is a great deep-ball thrower,” Wilson said. “And we love giving him that opportunity. He’s one of those kinds of guys that he knows kind of how the situation is set up and what it calls for, and he’s got the stuff to go to it. It reminds me the old school. I was thinking about it, because there’s been a lot of talk about that. In the old-school days, you used to watch the Sammy Baughs, the old guys, they’d throw the ball and it would go off the TV screen and then they’d come on back down. They’d drop bombs on guys.

‘It takes just the special savvy to figure out what is the right ball for the right situation’

“And it seems like there’s a little bit of an old-style to it (with Wilson) where you’re not just ripping the ball down to guys. But I think it takes just the special savvy that some of our great quarterbacks have to figure out what is the right ball for the right situation and that player as well, and the defender, and Russell certainly has a knack for all that.”
