The NASCAR Cup Series returned to Nashville Superspeedway last Sunday. Here’s a look at the Power Rankings after the Ally 400:

1. Chase Elliott

Win number two of the season came at Nashville for Elliott to go along with his Dover triumph earlier this year. Elliott led twice for 42 laps to score Cup career win number 15 in his 238th start, a major rebound from last year’s Nashville trip when Elliott finished 39th in 2021.

2. Ross Chastain

His fifth-place finish was Chastain’s eighth top-five performance in 2022, most of any driver in the NASCAR Cup Series as his solid season at Trackhouse Racing continued in Nashville.

3. Kyle Busch

An accident in Saturday’s practice and qualifying sessions forced Busch’s team to make repairs and he started Sunday’s race from the rear of the field. However he raced his way to the front and was in position to win until a call to pit road on the final caution took him from contention and home from Nashville with a disappointing 21st place finish.

4. Kyle Larson

The defending race winner couldn’t make it two straight trips to Nashville’s Victory Lane. Larson had to rebound from a pit road speeding penalty to get his seventh top-five finish of 2022 with a fourth-place run.

5. Ryan Blaney

The Team Penske driver had one of his better outings and kept his recent roll alive in Nashville with a third place finish. He had to recover from an incident on lap 205 and posted top-10 finish number three in a row.

6. Martin Truex Jr.

He announced a return to JGR for 2023 ending talks about an imminent retirement. Truex Jr. then went out and had a strong Nashville performance winning the first two stages and leading 82 laps overall. But a late race strategy to pit backfired on the No. 19 team and Truex Jr. ended up was back in 22nd place.

7. Denny Hamlin

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver set the pace early after winning the pole leading the race for 114 laps. But Hamlin got shuffled back as the race wore on and although he did hang out near the front was credited with a sixth-place finish.

8. Christopher Bell

His up and down season of battling back from adversity rolled on at Nashville for Bell. After qualifying inside the top-10 the Joe Gibbs Racing driver backed it up with an eighth-place Ally 400 finish.

9. Daniel Suarez

The Trackhouse Racing driver brought a lot of confidence to Music City on the heels of his first career Cup win at Sonoma before the weekend off. Suarez took the fifth spot in qualifying but wound up falling back to a 15th-place performance in the race.

Point Standings: 19th
Last Week: 4th

10. Joey Logano

Speed was there for Logano in qualifying as he earned the outside front row starting spot in Nashville. That didn’t quite translate to the race as he did lead four laps but ultimately settled for a ninth-place finish.
