SiriusXM’s Lithium honors 25-year anniversary of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’
To commemorate the 25-year anniversary of Nevermind, SiriusXM’s Lithium (Ch. 34) will re-play the exclusive 2011 SiriusXM town hall hosted by Jon Stewart and featuring interviews with Grohl, Krist Novolselic and Butch Vig, the band’s producer.
Dave Grohl talks all things Nirvana during an exclusive 2011 SiriusXM townhall interview.
When Dave Grohl heard Nirvana needed a drummer, he immediately went out and bought their album Bleach.
“And I learned the record from front to back,” Grohl recalls during an exclusive 2011 SiriusXM townhall interview. “I knew I was capable of doing it. I think it was more a matter of chemistry to see if we really played well together.”
The first time they jammed “we blazed through songs.” Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Grohl would go on to become alternative rock icons bringing the grunge scene to mainstream. Cobain became the face of an entire generation before committing suicide in 1994. He was 27 years old.
“Krist and I were a bad ass rhythm section … Kurt was an amazing songwriter and had a great voice so when we set up in a room … we sounded like Nirvana,” Grohl said.
The band released their second album, Nevermind on Sept. 24, 1991. The record featured rock anthems for teens in the early 1990s with songs like Lithium, Come As You Are and Smells Like Teen Spirit.
