Sway proclaims Shia LaBeouf “number one emcee in Hollywood” after on-air freestyle
LaBeouf came prepared to step into the ‘5 Fingers of Death,’ rapping over the beats of some of his heroes like Tupac, Biggie, and Missy Elliott
During a recent interview on Shade 45’s Sway in the Morning, actor Shia LaBeouf was full of surprises. While promoting his latest cinematic endeavor, Man Down, a film about U.S. Marine’s return from Afghanistan, the conversation took an interesting but appropriate shift to hip-hop music. The 30-year-old actor spoke in depth about his lifelong love of hip-hop and the the impact the culture had on him as a young kid growing up in Los Angeles.
When asked who some of his favorite producers were, LaBeouf started off by name-dropping the obvious heavy hitters like Timbaland and Kanye West, but to the surprise of everyone in the room, he dug even deeper into the earlier days of hip-hop by calling upon veteran producers RZA and DJ Premier. What happened next can only be described as a true hip-hop fan’s dream. Sway and co-host Heather B picked up their phones and called both RZA and DJ Premier to introduce them to Shia live on-air.
But the surprises didn’t end there. LaBeouf came prepared to step into the ‘5 Fingers of Death,’ one of the most iconic cypher platforms. Rapping over the beats of some of his heroes like Tupac, Biggie, and Missy Elliott, Shia, left everyone in the room with goosebumps. Sway himself proclaimed Shia the “number one emcee in Hollywood.” If you’re skeptical, watch it all for yourself:
