Taylor Gabriel: Bears show they’re ‘changing the culture’
Beating the Seattle Seahawks, 24-17, at Soldier Field Monday night for their first victory of the season carried a larger impact beyond the won-loss column for the Chicago Bears. As far as wide receiver Taylor Gabriel was concerned, it was an ideal time and place to showcase the new and improved Bears under first-year coach Matt Nagy.
‘Just trying to be consistent throughout the whole game’
“It feels good just to get a win at home and just show the culture,” Gabriel told Bill Lekas on Late Hits. “Just showing that we’re changing the culture here and just trying to be consistent throughout the whole game, not just the first drive of the second quarter.
“But at the same time it just feels good to get a win.”
‘(Getting the ball back) was one thing that we kind of didn’t have to worry about’
Gabriel, who caught four passes for 30 yards, said it was fun for him and the rest of the Bears’ offense to watch the defense, boosted by the addition of Khalil Mack, give a dominant showing. The Bears Russell Wilson six times, forced him to fumble and intercepted him once.
(Bears’ defensive performance) “Yeah, man, just sitting back and watching that defense … you kind of cross your fingers and hoping that the defense gives you the ball back. And that was one thing that we kind of didn’t have to worry about. It’s always a plus having a (quality) defense out there.”
