Taylor Swift Drops New Music Video for ‘Bejeweled’ and Hints at Going on Tour

It was only this past Friday when Taylor Swift released her tenth studio album, Midnights, along with a music video for the lead single, “Anti-Hero.” But here she is, just a few days later, giving us another video (at midnight, of course) — this one filled with guest stars, Easter eggs and glitter.

The music video for “Bejeweled,” the ninth track on Midnights, features Swift’s good friends Alana, Este and Danielle Haim (better known as the sister trio HAIM), as well as her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, plus actress Laura Dern, makeup mogul Pat McGrath and “Queen of Burlesque” Dita Von Teese.

“I was like, ‘I want to make a video that is just for the fans who like certain things like glitter and Easter eggs and lots of little cameos,'” Swift told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “I was thinking about Midnights the concept, and I was like, ‘Where do we hear about midnights a lot?’ We hear about it a lot when we talk about the Cinderella fairy tale. And so I was like, ‘What if we did a little twist on a Cinderella story and I could cast my friends?'”

With Dern as the stepmother and the Haim sisters as the stepsisters, in the music video Swift must sneak out to go to the ball to impress Queen Pat (McGrath) and Prince Jack (Antonoff) to win a marriage proposal and the keys to the castle.

“Directing Oscar-winner Laura Dern is easier than anything I’ve ever done in my life,” Swift admitted to Fallon.

Von Teese — who Swift names as one of the biggest influences in pop music and most iconic performers — plays the character of “Fairy Goddess,” a sparkly and choreographed take on the original Fairy Godmother. “It’s so exciting to see her get to do what she does in this,” said Swift.

The music video is so full of Easter eggs that Swift confessed that she and her team have a PDF to keep track of them all. One of the biggest secrets the video seemed to be hinting to is the next album Swift will re-record. From Dern’s character telling her to “speak not” to hitting the purple button on the elevator, all signs point to her 2010 release, Speak Now.

One of the most anticipated secrets Swift fans are waiting for her to let them in on? Whether or not she’ll be going on tour in 2023. “We want you to,” Fallon encouraged, to which Swift replied noncommittally, “I think I should do it.” Swift hasn’t toured since 2018 after she was forced to cancel 2020’s Lover Fest due to the pandemic.

In its first few days of release, Midnights has already broken countless records. In addition to streaming records, besting Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti, it smashed the first-day vinyl records sales with 400,000 sold (beating Harry Styles’ Harry’s House). Billboard has Midnights at 800,000 equivalent album units in just the first day — 1.3 million in the first three days — which could make for her most successful debut week ever if the numbers hold strong through Thursday. In 2017, her album Reputation earned 1.216 million.
