Wall Street donors want to keep Elizabeth Warren off presidential ticket

Progressives want Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren to round out Hillary Clinton’s presidential ticket, but there is one bull of a hurdle standing in her way.

“[Wall Street donors] do not like, surprise, surprise, the idea of Elizabeth Warren as vice president,” POLITICO‘s Ben White told Julie Mason. He added that big hedge fund managers and investment bankers have subtly threatened to pull their contributions to Clinton’s campaign were she to run with Warren on the ticket.

Warren is considered the most outspoken critic of Wall Street occupying the halls of the Senate, and long before her political career, she has been a staunch advocate for financial reform. Many who want her to be Clinton’s vice presidential nominee believe she will appeal to Bernie Sanders’ voters and help to unite the party.

While the vetting process is in the early stages, multiple news outlets have reported that Clinton is actively looking at Warren. Other names floating around include HUD Sec. Julián Castro, Sen. Tim Kaine, Sen. Sherrod Brown, Sen. Cory Booker, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti, and Labor Sec. Tom Perez.

“[Wall Street is] rattling the sabers to try to influence this election process and keep Warren from getting the VP slot. It could be counterproductive, but that’s the perspective on Wall Street,” White concluded.
