While you were sleeping: Raptors and Heat advance, Blues win in overtime, WWE Payback recap

Good morning! A lot happens in sports, even when you’re busy doing other non-sports-y stuff. So here are the top headlines and moments from yesterday, in case you missed anything while you were watching Game Of Thrones.

NBA Playoffs: Raptors and Heat win in Game 7, ‘Dubs dominate

The Raptors exorcised their playoff demons with an 89-84 win over the Pacers in Game 7 of their series to advance to the second round. It is the first playoff-series win for Toronto since 2001. The Raptors nearly blew a 16-point fourth-quarter lead but were able to defend Indiana’s attempt to force overtime. DeMar DeRozan put up 30 points to lead the way.

The Heat also rolled into the second round with a 106-73 win over the Hornets in Game 7. Miami had five players score in double-figures, led by Goran Dragic’s 25. The Heat also played outstanding defense, limiting Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson to a combined 13 points. Charlotte has failed to make it past the first round since 2002. The Heat will face the Raptors in the second round.

It’s getting scary how well the Warriors have been playing without Stephen Curry. Golden State rolled to a 118-106 win over Portland in Game 1 of their second-round series. All five starters scored in double-figures, led by Klay Thompson’s playoff-career-high 37. Draymond Green added 23 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists while anchoring a defense that held the Trail Blazers to 40.2 percent from the field and 32.3 percent from three-point range.

NHL Playoffs: Blues win in overtime, Sharks take 2-0 lead

The Blues got back into their series with the Stars with a 4-3 overtime win in Game 2. David Backes netted the game-winning goal for our must-see moment of the night:

The Sharks extended their series lead to 2-0 with a 3-2 win over the Predators. Joe Pavelski scored a go-ahead goal with 2:40 left in regulation and Matt Thornton added a late empty-net goal to secure the win.

WWE Payback finishes strong

WWE Payback started off with a snag but finished with a bang on a night full of solid matches and performances. In the opening bout of the night, Enzo Amore suffered a concussion during his tag team match and had to be taken out of the arena in a stretcher in a scary moment. Amore was taken to a local medical facility where he was alert and had full movement in his extremities. He was released from the hospital later that night.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens followed with an outstanding match showcasing the WWE’s top rivalry of the future. Owens won the match, but it seems like these two are headed for the Intercontinental Championship picture, which will only add intrigue to their feud.

The main event between Roman Reigns and AJ Styles for the world heavyweight title was definitely the highlight of the night as the match featured creative booking and stellar efforts from both superstars. Highlights included Styles putting Reigns through a table with the Phenomenal Forearm, Reigns throwing Styles onto the Usos and Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, and Styles hitting a springboard 450 splash. Reigns won the match, but the two are scheduled for a rematch at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. It’s definitely a good idea to keep this rivalry going and use it to set up more stroylines for the summer.
