While you were sleeping: Warriors beat Rockets, Steph Curry goes down, Islanders end 23-year playoff drought, Manziel indicted

Good morning! A lot happens in sports, even when you’re busy doing other non-sports-y stuff. So here are the top headlines and moments from yesterday, in case you missed anything while you were watching the season premiere of Game Of Thrones.

NBA Playoffs: Warriors bounce back, Steph Curry injured

The Warriors bounced back in a big way after a loss in Game 3, beating the Rockets 121-94 on Sunday to take a 3-1 series lead. But the story coming out of Houston is the status of Stephen Curry, who returned from an ankle injury only to suffer a knee injury at the end of the first half:

Curry missed the rest of the game with a sprained right knee and an MRI is scheduled for Monday to determine the severity of the injury, but he is likely out for the rest of this series. The game was tied at 56 at the half, and you’d think the Rockets would come out with a sense of urgency with the reigning MVP out of the game. But no, Houston fell flat as Golden State rained down a barrage of three-pointers and finished the game with a playoff-record 21 triples.

The Celtics clawed back into their series with the Hawks, winning 104-95 in an overtime thriller to knot things up at two games apiece. Isaiah Thomas scored 28 points, including the last five of overtime, and Marcus Smart scored 20, including 11 straight in the fourth quarter. Boston overcame a stellar performance from Paul Milsap, who put up a playoff career-high 45 points to go with 13 rebounds. The Cavs and the Spurs both got their broomsticks out and completed their first-round sweeps. San Antonio dismantled a depleted Memphis team, 116-95, to close out a series that saw three out of the four games decided by 20 points or more. Cleveland downed Detroit, 100-98, to finish a fairly competitive series that saw three out of the four games decided by 10 points or less. Kyrie Irving also had this sick halfcourt buzzer-beater for a must-see moment:

NHL Playoffs: Islanders end playoff drought

The Islanders exorcised some demons Sunday, beating the Panthers 2-1 in double overtime to win their first playoff series in 23 years. Captain John Tavares scored the game-tying goal in regulation and then put in the winning goal at 10:41 of the second overtime in our must-see moment of the night:

The Stars and Capitals also closed out their series. Dallas downed Minnesota, 5-4, while Washington shutout Philadelphia, 1-0.

McGregor back in for UFC 200?

The Notorious one has struck again. After causing a stir with a retirement announcement last week due to not wanting to promote for UFC 200, Conor McGregor took to Twitter to announce that he is back on the card for the landmark event:

The thing is, the UFC has yet to announce this, so it’s unknown whether McGregor jumped the gun or if this is actually official. Stay tuned…

Manziel charged with misdemeanor assault

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was indicted by a Dallas County grand jury on Sunday night on a misdemeanor assault charge. The former Heisman trophy-winner allegedly hit his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, during an altercation after leaving a Dallas hotel. Crowley said in an affidavit that Manziel forced her into his car and when she tried to jump out he dragged her back in and hit her. Crowley was granted a protective order against Manziel that prevents him from seeing her for two years.

This is the latest incident in the free-fall for the 23-year-old quarterback, who was cut by the Browns in March and has been known for his heavy drinking and partying. Manziel had two of his agents cut ties with him demanding he seek treatment.
