Turning to a tried and true office HR practice (fire personnel on Fridays) and media spin tactic (bury bad news on Friday afternoons), the Cleveland Cavaliers have finally fired David Blatt and named former assistant coach, Tyronn Lue, the new boss in town. Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski dropped the above #WojBomb Friday afternoon and approximately 11 minutes later dropped news that Lue had accepted a multi-year offer from Cavs brass to be their El Jefe moving forward.
Blatt leaves the Cavaliers with a win-loss record of 83-40 over the course of about a season and a half of NBA hoops. Blatt led the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals at the end of last season where they lost the championship to the Golden State Warriors in a series that went 4-2 and that saw Cleveland without the services of either their starting point guard, Kyrie Irving, after the series opener or power forward, Kevin Love. This season the Cavaliers are in first place in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. In spite of the clear successes, Blatt’s record was not enough to quiet the rumors of locker room discontent and claims that Cleveland star, LeBron James, was calling for Lue to be inserted into the head coaching role. Now it would appear that King James has had his demands met.
