It may have been three months ago, but the Houston Astros are still celebrating their first World Series title after a memorable, hard-fought battle against the Los Angeles Dodgers last fall.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch joined MLB Network Radio’s Mike Ferrin for a special hour-long interview in Houston to talk about their magical season. Hinch was all smiles, not only because he won a title, but because he didn’t lose a friend – Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts – in the process.

The set-up: Astros slugger and World Series MVP George Springer is getting married in Southern California, so Hinch decided to reach out to Roberts to possibly meet up.

“This is a friend of mine that I would text almost weekly during the season or in the previous seasons because we worked together and played against each other for a long time. It had gone pretty quiet since Game 7 of the World Series,” Hinch said. “He said, ‘Hey, why don’t you come over for dinner.’ Our families are close. He goes, ‘Why don’t you just stay?’ It was great, just like friends do.”

Then, of course, Roberts asked why he was coming out. That’s when things got a little awkward.

“I said, ‘Springer’s wedding.’ He’s like, ‘Oh. You can stay anyway, just bring a really good bottle of wine.'”

For the full interview, listen On Demand to MLB Network Radio on XM Ch. 89, Sirius Ch. 209.
