Falcons’ Dan Quinn: With Seahawks’ Russell Wilson, there’s two plays in one
Dan Quinn knows Russell Wilson better than most opposing coaches. Before becoming head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Quinn was defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks, so he saw plenty of the quarterback in practice.

‘When he gets out of the pocket, the second play just begins’
And Quinn knows exactly what the Falcons’ defense will be facing against Wilson Sunday night at Seattle.
“He has always been able to rip it, from all different angles, from all different spots,” Quinn told Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on Movin’ the Chains. “There’s two plays that happen. There’s the first play that was there on the design, but what (coach) Pete (Carroll) and Bev (offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell) and the guys have done is, when he gets outside the pocket, the second play just begins.
‘You see Baldwin and Richardson and the guys really converting and making plays when Russ gets out on the run’
“Their scramble rules are really intact. They have that part of their game down. You see (receivers Doug) Baldwin and (Paul) Richardson and the guys really converting and making plays when Russ gets out on the run.”
That’s because when Wilson scrambles, he does so as a passer, first, extending the play and looking for an open receiver. But he also will pull the ball down and run, as reflected by his 51 carries this season for 290 yards and a touchdown.
‘There’s going to be eight carries somehow, some way by him extending a play’
“Every game, the nine or 10 games that they’ve had, there’s going to be eight carries somehow, some way by him extending a play,” Quinn said. “And that’ll be a big part of our preparation heading in.”
