Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde remembers the encounter with reporters a quarter of the way into last season.
The topic was Bills rookie middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, for whom Hyde will tell you, “the sky’s the limit.”
“I think it was Green Bay Week, I was sitting down with some reporters and I happened to throw out, ‘Hall of Fame player,'” Hyde told Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on Movin’ The Chains. “And they’re all like, ‘Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! It’s only the (fourth) game of the season, his rookie year.’ But I feel like that’s his potential.”
‘Number one, he elevates throws for the safeties and for the inside guys so much’
The qualities that make Edmunds the outstanding player he is and make him able to become even better are many.
“He’s able to get his hands up and whether he’s deflecting tips and overthrows or even making the ball elevate, it helps the safeties out. But then he’s sideline-to-sideline.”
“Number one, he elevates throws for the safeties and for the inside guys so much, because he’s six … nine, it seems like,” Hyde said of the 6-5 Edmunds. “He’s able to get his hands up and whether he’s deflecting tips and overthrows or even making the ball elevate, it helps the safeties out. But then he’s sideline-to-sideline. Run plays, he’s quick as can be. We put him on a tight end, he’s able to hold his own. And he’s only going to get better.
‘He’s definitely becoming a leader each and every day’
“So, we love what he’s a he’s able to do. And whenever he steps in the huddle and just commands the huddle, he’s definitely becoming a leader each and every day. And that’s what Sean asks him to do.”
