Cam Jordan: ‘I don’t know if there’s a higher-level-playing division’ than the NFC South
Three of the four teams in the NFC South are 2-1, making it the division with the most clubs with winning records. That doesn’t surprise New Orleans Saints defensive end Cam Jordan, whose team is among the clubs in the division with winning marks. He saw the NFC South as presenting every bit as much strength in 2017, with a pair of 11-5 teams (the Saints and Carolina Panthers) and a 10-6 club (the Atlanta Falcons).

‘Within the NFC South, you know that you have electric offenses throughout the conference’
“I don’t know if there’s a higher-level-playing division,” Jordan told Vic Carucci and Gil Brandt on Late Hits. “You can probably bring up the (3-0) Rams and their (NFC West) division. But within the NFC South, you know that you have electric offenses throughout the conference.
“You have stout linebacker play, great defensive line that we talk about, (Tampa Bay’s) Gerald McCoy, you talk about a legend like (Carolina’s) Julius Peppers. You talk about everything the NFC South encompasses, this is something that you have to be aware of, where you’re going. Last year, 11-5 or whatever, was in the race for first place in our conference, but it wasn’t a winner.”
‘Drew’s sitting at 39, and he’s just as efficient as he was’
One of the NFL’s top quarterbacks, Drew Brees, is Jordan’s teammate. And the defensive end fully expects Brees to continue to perform at a top level even though he is pushing 40.
“When he first got the Saints, I’m sure they were saying, ‘His window to win a Super Bowl was going to be small because of his shoulder injury,'” Jordan said. “After the first (Saints Super Bowl win, Brees was) a quarterback turning 35, and they say, ‘Hey, his window’s going to be smaller.’ Drew’s sitting at 39, and he’s just as efficient as he was.
‘As long as (Brees is) willing to play, he’s going to have the mindset to win the Super Bowl every year’
“I’d definitely take the age characteristic out of it. The mindset is still there to win the Super Bowl, so only Drew knows how long he’s going to play. And as long as he’s willing to play, he’s going to have the mindset to win the Super Bowl every year.”
