The Seattle Seahawks’ defense knows what it needs to do to get the upper hand on the Buffalo Bills Monday night.
Keep LeSean McCoy, who is expected to return from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for last week’s game against New England, from having a huge game running.
‘He’s an elusive back, he makes things happen, he makes people miss’
“Stopping the run game with McCoy,” defensive end Cliff Avril told Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on Late Hits. “He’s an elusive back, he makes things happen, he makes people miss. So I think that’s the biggest challenge overall.
“And he’s catching the ball out of the backfield and doing more great things. If we can contain him and slow him down, I think we have a better chance of winning.”
‘They have an extra blocker when your quarterback’s a runner’
The other aspect of the Bills’ ground attack for which the Seahawks are preparing is Tyrod Taylor, one of the most dangerous running quarterbacks in the NFL. The Seahawks’ defense has to be conscious of Taylor’s ability to break from the pocket and tear off long gains.
“And they get an extra blocker when your quarterback’s a runner, so we’ve just got to be discipline,” Avril said. “We’ve got to rush with our eyes open and seeing where the quarterback is because he makes people miss as well in the pocket. So we’ve got our work cut out for us, but I think we can accomplish it as long as everybody plays discipline.”
