After a two-week stretch that saw Rutgers lose by a combined 136-0 margin against Big Ten overlords Ohio State and Michigan, College Sports Nation’s Greg McElroy held nothing back when talking about the Scarlet Knights and whether or not they belong in the Big Ten conference. “Market share, viewers? Does that matter? Rutgers’ players’ parents probably turned the game off,” McElroy declares. “What do you want Michigan to do,” McElroy continued, “Fall down and take a knee in the third quarter?” “How has this team [Rutgers] who returned so much, returned so many starters, how are they so unmotivated? I mean, please tell me.”

“I don’t understand what the Big Ten is gaining from having Rutgers,” McElroy stated as a final salvo. The Scarlet Knights have had a rough go of things since joining the Big Ten 2014. The squad has routinely finished in the cellar and has a winning percentage below .300 against conference opponents. All of this is to say, McElroy may have a point. Rutgers will look to end their three-game losing streak at home against Illinois this Saturday, 10/15.
