New York Giants safety Darian Thompson says he’s doing well in his recovery from a foot injury that eventually required surgery and limited him to only two games as a rookie last season.

He’s working his way back to full speed during the Giants’ OTA practices, and, as he told Alex Marvez and Phil Savage on Late Hits, he’s “excited for the season coming up.”

‘Oh, man, I’m extremely grateful to have those guys in front of me’

Much of that excitement stems from the anticipation of working behind the Giants’ dynamic pass rush, led by Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul.

“Oh, man, I’m extremely grateful to have those guys in front of me,” Thompson said. “When the quarterback gets pressure in his face, it makes my job a lot easier. So, hopefully, they continue to do what they’ve been doing and get me some lollipops thrown my way.”

‘I feel like we’re going against the best receiving corps in the National Football League’

Thompson also says the Giants’ secondary can’t help but benefit from regularly facing the team’s receivers during practice.

“I feel like we’re going against the best receiving corps in the National Football League and that makes us better ultimately,” he said. “We’re competitors, we go at it every day, and have fun while doing it, so we’re ready for this upcoming year. We’re excited and we can’t wait to get things actually going.”
