As New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr prepares for his 11th NFL season, he spoke to SiriusXM NFL Radio behind the scenes at training camp about the team’s new offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak.

“This [offensive] system has worked for a long time, and it’s up to us players to learn the system and execute it properly with the right techniques and fundamentals,” Carr said. “And so there are some things being asked of some guys, myself included, that’s different for us. In your 11th year, you’re asked to do something that may be a little different than you’re used to, but can you do it? And we’ve all bought in. We just believe — you watch the tape, and you’re like, ‘How can you not believe in it?’ And we want to get to that level.”

He continued, “And so I think what you saw a little bit was the buy-in from everybody. That we’re all in on Klint, what Klint wants to do. It’s different for me, but I think it’s maybe a good thing. Maybe it is a good thing, you know? And so I feel that way.”

Carr added, “And then this off-season, man, I picked apart everything I’ve done the last 10 years, and I said, ‘This week, what can I do better here? What can I do better here? OTAs. Can I get an extra practice in by getting my reps off on the side afterward or before?’ So I’m getting double the practices. What I’m doing in camp, I’m coming out early to get — I’m running through the practice before I even do the practice. So, man, by the time we’ve done four practices, I’ve done eight, you know? I’ve just been looking at myself, ’cause if I could be better, I know that that helps our team be better, and so that’s all I’m trying to do.”
