Eric Ebron chooses Colts because Andrew Luck ‘is a great quarterback’

Andrew Luck is still working his way back from shoulder surgery that sidelined him for the 2017 season.

Eric Ebron doesn’t know a whole lot more than that. However, the Indianapolis Colts’ recently acquired tight end leaned on his faith that he will eventually be catching passes from Luck when he chose his new team.

‘You don’t want to go to a team that doesn’t really have anyone to throw you the ball’

“That is one of the reasons I chose Indianapolis, is because I know Andrew Luck is a great quarterback,” the former Detroit Lion told Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn on the SiriusXM Blitz. “So you want that, especially if you’re a free agent. You don’t want to go to a team that doesn’t really have anyone to throw you the ball. You want to go to a team that has someone that you know can pretty much get you the ball.

“Andrew Luck played a fantastic role into that. They said he would be healthy and, honestly, that’s all on him. I know nothing about his health right now or whatever. But it played a role and that’s really what led me to Indy.”

‘What Frank has done with tight ends and what Nick has done with tight ends, so that helped’

Ebron also said he was attracted to the fact the Colts hired former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich as their new head coach, and Nick Sirianni as offensive coordinator.

“Obviously, the coaching staff and what Frank has done with tight ends and what Nick has done with tight ends, so that helped,” he said.

‘I think both parties knew what was going to happen’

Ebron said he felt no disappointment that things didn’t work out with the Lions, who made him a first-round draft pick in 2014.

“I kind of had a vibe for it, what was going to happen,” he said. “I think both parties knew what was going to happen, so no real like bitterness or no happy endings. But I’m cool with that.”
