Few Atlanta Falcons players were busier in the 2016 season than offensive guard Chris Chester.
He was on the field for all of the Falcons’ 1,042 offensive plays, including 92 on special teams. But Chester isn’t complaining in the least about being overworked.
‘I’m about two weeks away from having a good break’
Nor is he looking for a break any time soon, especially with Super Bowl LI coming up against the New England Patriots.
“I’m not worried about a break right now,” he told Solomon Wilcots and Pat Kirwan on Movin’ The Chains. “I’m about two weeks away from having a good break, so I can suck it up for a little bit.”
‘It’d be great for the city and for the community’
Chester is well aware of what a first Super Bowl victory would mean for the Falcons.
“It’d be really cool,” he said. “It’d be great for the city and for the community. They came out really strong for us the whole year, so it would be awesome to do that for Atlanta.”
‘Always on the verge of scoring’
How much fun is it to block on the top-scoring offense in the NFL, with top-flight weapons such as wide receiver Julio Jones?
“It’s encouraging, because you know that he’s one — all of our receivers and skill-position (players) I can say the same for — they’re one missed tackle away from making a huge play. It’s really cool that you can be always on the verge of scoring,” Chester said.
What’s the biggest difference between the 2015 and 2016 Falcons?
“I guess we kept the focus on ourselves in improving and really trusting the process, and just working,” Chester said. “There’s a lot of Xs and Os to football, but the real secret to the whole thing is you have to make the plays come to life. You can scheme this and that however you want, but I think we took a lot of pride in really just doing the little things well. I think it’s kind of helped us sustain our success.”
