Frank Reich won’t start digging into the type of team he has until next week.
That’s when the new coach of the Indianapolis Colts plans to start “exhaustively” watching videotape and studying all of the details of his roster along with General Manager Chris Ballard.
‘I’m really into pressure with four men and let the defense play’
However, Reich knows this much about the Colts: the offensive scheme he plans to implement will be a good match with the Tampa Two defensive approach the club will take.
“On offense, we’re going to be attack (-oriented), so that Tampa Two defense it’s just a really proven, test-of-time scheme where it can create plays,” Reich told Alex Marvez and Bill Polian on Late Hits. “I’m really into pressure with four men and let the defense play. It’s a little bit of bend but don’t break. It’s a unique coverage that not as many teams run and the teams that run it don’t run it as well as the pure Tampa Bay Two teams.
‘The offense has advanced a little bit in the sense of there will be more RPO game like what we did in Philadelphia’
“So when you combine that with the kind of offense that we’re going to have, it’ll be a little bit like the Colts when (Polian and Tony (Dungy) were here. Except, when I really think about the offense, the offense has advanced a little bit in the sense of there will be more RPO game like what we did in Philadelphia (where Reich was offensive coordinator the past two seasons) and a little bit more balanced attack.
“So just excited about how that will all complement together.”
