‘I just feel like I’m learning more, I feel like I’m understanding more’
He has spent the offseason receiving an education of how the defense works and how he functions in it.
“I just feel like I’m learning more, I feel like I’m understanding more,” Reddick told Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on Late Hits. “I’m definitely understanding the game from the second level, and the way that I’m picking up on it, the way that I’m learning the position, I feel like I’m going to be able to make a lot of plays come the season.
‘I’m trying to figure out what’s my job, what’s my role in the defense’
“We have a new playbook now, a new system, so I’m trying to figure out what’s my job, what’s my role in the defense, and right now it’s looking pretty good.”
Reddick looks back on his rookie season in 2017 as a “big learning year.” Everything was an adjustment, from competing against a much higher caliber of players and dealing with a far faster game that he played while at Temple University.
‘(Steve Wilks and his coaching staff are) coming in and implementing ways for us to pick up and learn the defense’
“Not only that, (but) coming in, learning a different playbook, playing a different role,” Reddick said. “And coming from college, playing basically a rushing D-end and then coming in here and playing inside linebacker and then some outside linebacker as well.”
He’s learning another new defense, but credits Wilks and the coaching staff for “coming in and implementing ways for us to pick up and learn the defense as fast as I believe the defense has been learning.”
