PHOENIX – Doug Marrone believes it’s important that Nick Foles has a head-start on the rest of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense, even though he is new to the team.
Marrone and the rest of the Jaguars’ coaches are familiar with what Foles is capable of doing. Therefore, that is going to allow them to tailor their scheme to him, thus giving him tremendous momentum entering offseason workouts.
‘When we walk into the building on April 15, Nick Foles is going to know more of that offense than the rest of our players’
“With Nick, you’ve seen what he can do, you’ve seen when he likes, it’s all on tape,” Marrone told Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on Movin The Chains from the NFL meeting at the Arizona Biltmore. “So now it’s very easy for us to set up the installations the way we want to do it. And the other thing is, now the quarterback is walking into the building and we did change some things of the offenses that he’s been involved with in Philadelphia, because we want it to fit ours.
“Now it’s very easy for us to set up the installations the way we want to do it.”
“But when we walk into the building – our offensive players come in and build on April 15 – Nick Foles is going to know more of that offense than the rest of our players. And I always believed, philosophy wise, that you want your offense to catch up to the quarterback.”
‘Now, you have the ability to be a better football team, a better offense’
From Marrone’s experience, the advantages of that are considerable.
“Now, you have the ability to be a better football team, a better offense, whereas if it’s the other way around, and the quarterback’s trying to catch up to everyone else, well, then you’re going to hit a lot of bumps in the road,” the coach said.
