Happy New Year friends and best wishes for a truly amazing 2016!
My show is LIVE this Saturday, January 2 and we have a great show lined up. We are talking Donald Trump helping Al Qaeda and ISIS recruit in new video the terror groups released Friday, religious liberty for all Americans, what it’s like to be Latino and Muslim in America, free donuts to fight hate and more!
Muslims fired for praying at work? Well, 190 Muslims were fired last week from their jobs with Cargill Meat Solutions at its Fort Morgan, Colorado, meatpacking plant. The dispute surrounded Muslim employees who wanted to take 10-minute breaks two to three times in a day (one being during their lunch hour) to pray. Reportedly Cargill had allowed its Muslims employees to do just that for years.
What caused the uproar and the Muslim employees to be fired in mass? What obligations do employers have under U.S. law to offer a “reasonable accommodation” to allow people to practice their religion? Should the employees have been fired? I’ll be joined by MSNBC legal analyst Seema Iyer, Esq. to discuss this case and answer your questions about your right to religious liberty.
There are Latino Muslims?! Many people are amazed to hear that there are not only Latino-American Muslims but that it’s a fast growing part of the Muslim American community. And as you would imagine, given Donald Trump’s rhetoric about Latinos and Muslims in this campaign, it’s a challenging time for Latino-Muslims. Will Giron will share what it’s like being Latino and Muslim in today’s America.
Muslims offering free coffee and donuts! Mona Haydar and her husband Sebastian recently set up a booth outside a library in Cambridge, Massachusetts with a big sign that read, “Talk to a Muslim.” And perhaps more importantly, the sign stated, “Free Coffee & Donuts.” What happened next was amazing! Mona and Sebastian will join the show to share the conversations they had, the questions they heard and what they learned from the experience.
Muslim Americans fighting extremism. Harris Zafar, the national spokesperson for Ahmaddiya Muslim Community USA, will join me to discuss a new initiative his community has spearhead to reclaim Islam from extremists. The campaign is called “True Islam” and it’s intended to clarify misconceptions about what Islam is truly about and to counter the lies of groups like ISIS. We will also talk about Donald Trump’s words being used by Al Qaeda terror groups in a new video released Friday. Trump is dangerously clueless.
Hope you not only tune Saturday morning but become a part of the conversation. The phone lines are open all show at 877-974-7487.
