At 40 years old, Verlander boasts a 6-5 record and a 3.15 ERA this season. Despite getting off to a slow start, notably, he has been exceptional in his last six starts, maintaining a 1.69 ERA and limiting batters to a meager .167 average. He’s also allowed only one home run over his last 37⅓ innings. Recently, Verlander achieved his 250th career victory.

Having signed a two-year contract worth $86.7 million with the Mets in December, Verlander remains under contract until the end of the next season, with a potential option for 2025.

The future hall of famer previously won two World Series titles with the Astros.

Prior to the Verlander deal, the Mets made significant trades, sending right-hander Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers, outfielder Mark Canha to the Milwaukee Brewers, and closer David Robertson to the Miami Marlins. There is still a possibility of additional moves, with outfielder Tommy Pham, left-hander Jose Quintana, and relievers Adam Ottavino and Brooks Raley potentially being dealt before the trade deadline at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
