Trent Brown is due to become a free agent, but the left tackle learned plenty about Tom Brady and The Patriot Way while spending the 2018 season on the Super Bowl-champion New England Patriots.

Brady not only impressed Brown as a “Grade-A guy,” but the quarterback’s approach to his job struck a major chord that Brown saw impact the entire locker room.

‘That’s our leader and we follow him and we go as he goes’

“He’s addicted to winning and that attitude, it definitely trickles down through the rest of the team,” Brown told Alex Marvez and Brad Hopkins on Late Hits. “That’s our leader and we follow him and we go as he goes.”

“I think it was just definitely the sum of the guys I’m around and the coaches and the game kind of slowed down for me.”

After signing with the Patriots as a free agent from the San Francisco 49ers, Brown discovered just how prepared his new club was to have the sort of sustained success it has enjoyed, including Sunday’s victory against the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

‘The confidence was there, the wins were there, and I think it was just more willingness to just keep pushing forward’

“I think it was just definitely the sum of the guys I’m around and the coaches and the game kind of slowed down for me,” Brown said. “The confidence was there, the wins were there, and I think it was just more willingness to just keep pushing forward to reach the end goal, which we did accomplish.”

What is the Patriot Way? “It’s honestly just family and brotherhood,” he said.

‘The way (Dante Scarnecchia) leads us is definitely a reflection of how we play on Sundays’

That family includes the coaches, and Brown relished the chance to work with veteran offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia.

“We kind of took a liking to each other early and I kind of took a liking to him early, for sure,” Brown said. “He’s a great guy, great person, the same person every day. You know what to expect. And he’s going to coach you hard, but he’s going to love on you the same way and I really, truly believe that attitude reflects leadership. And the way he leads us is definitely a reflection of how we play on Sundays.”
