Doug Pederson on Eagles QB Carson Wentz: ‘He’s doing everything in his power to get healthy’
The Philadelphia Eagles are looking forward to having Carson Wentz, the guy who was so instrumental in their Super Bowl run two seasons ago, back at quarterback this season rather than the guy continually slowed by the severe knee injury that prematurely ended his 2017 season.
The Philadelphia Eagles are looking forward to having Carson Wentz, the guy who was so instrumental in their Super Bowl run two seasons ago, back at quarterback this season rather than the guy continually slowed by physical ailments, first the severe knee injury that prematurely ended his 2017 season and the back injury he suffered in 2018.
Coach Doug Pederson is feeling good about the prospect of having Wentz at full form, although he doesn’t know exactly when that will be.
‘I’m optimistic that he’ll be ready to go for the OTAs’
“Obviously, there is no timetable for him, but I’m optimistic that he’ll be ready to go for the OTAs,” Pederson told Alex Marvez and John Clayton on Late Hits. “He’s doing everything in his power to get healthy and get back, and we’re excited about that.”
Although the Eagles were able to win the Super Bowl with their former quarterback, Nick Foles, behind center, Pederson says there’s no mistaking what Wentz meant to the championship run. He also knows that Wentz’s continued health issues last season didn’t allow the Eagles to be the team they were the year before.
‘He had a full offseason (in 2017) and was able to work with our guys, and that’s what we’ve got to get to’
“I go back, again, to 2017 and for teams that have success in this in this league, your quarterback, obviously, is a key to the kingdom,” Pederson said. “And he had a full offseason that year and was able to work with our guys, and that’s what we’ve got to get back to on a continual basis every year. That’s why this this spring will be big again, having him out there on the field when he’s ready to be with the guys.”
