Raiders’ Maurice Hurst on irregular heartbeat: ‘I don’t think it’s anything of concern for myself’
Maurice Hurst fully anticipated slipping down the respective draft boards of NFL teams. As the former Michigan standout defensive tackle pointed out to Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn on the SiriusXM Blitz, “teams can get kind of freaked out on Draft Day.”

‘It’s something we have to get checked up every year’
For Hurst, that factored into his dropping from a one-time first- or second-round projection all the way to the fifth round, where he was selected by the Oakland Raiders. Apparently nothing could prevent that (or even Hurst’s removal from some draft boards) from happening, including the fact Hurst was cleared to play at Michigan and cleared by some NFL teams.
“Just an irregular heartbeat,” Hurst said. “I don’t think it’s anything of concern for myself or any other team. So, the Raiders, it’s something we have to get checked up every year and just make sure everything’s good.
‘It’s just something where you trust your doctor’s judgement’
“It’s something where you just trust the doctors that took you in and reviewed all your medical. Just like anything else, just like an injury or anything like, it’s just something where you trust your doctor’s judgement to allow you to stay on the field.”
Hurst is looking forward. He is more than happy to be a part of the Raiders.
‘Just working to try to produce and be the best Oakland Raider I can be’
“Everything has worked out,” he said. “Just got done with rookie minicamp. After that draft, I mean, it’s all in hindsight and just working to try to produce and be the best Oakland Raider I can be.”
